2008 Show Rules

Every orchid show has a set of rules that you have to agree to if you want to participate.

Who: This is an open show. Anyone may exhibit in accordance with this schedule and rules.

What: Blooming orchid plants, non-blooming orchid plants grown for their decorative leaves
or cut orchid flowers may be entered. Orchid Art items may be entered.

When: All entries will be received Friday, April 18, from 10: 00 a.m.-1: 00 p.m.,
and from 5: 00 p.m.-7: 00 p.m.

No plant or entry may be removed before 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 20.
Plants and entries must have been removed by 5:00 p.m. (when the mall closes).

How: Exhibitors must complete and submit an entry tag (provided at registration) for each plant, cut flower, or art item. Help for this is available at the registration table and on the website. If a plant name is not available, label it as "unknown".

Conditions: All Plant material exhibited or sold must be clean, presentable; disease and insect free
and watered, if necessary before being displayed. Plants that are obviously diseased or
infected with pests, or are not properly labeled, may be refused, or the plant removed
from the Show and Sale area.
Newly imported, unestablished and indigenous plants are discouraged in exhibits.
Any healthy foliage plant may be used in exhibits, but orchids are the only blooms
permitted in the show.
The Sacajawea Orchid Society reserves the right to refuse exhibits or displays found
to be inappropriate or distasteful.
The Sacajawea Orchid Society provides tables with skirting. All other materials in
exhibits are the responsibility of the exhibitor.

Art: For space reasons, an exhibitor may not enter more than 4 pieces of Art in any one category.
The Sacajawea Orchid Society provides pegboards and a couple of easels for displaying Art items.
The exhibitor may bring additional material in order to display his/her art, but has to comply with the Sacajawea Orchid Society about the display location.
The exhibitor may not display his/her business card or price tag on any Art item entered until after the Judging has taken place. If an item is sold, it has to stay on display until the end of the show.

Vendor/Group Displays: For vendor, or group displays, it is recommended that arrangements for display space be completed a minimum of 4 weeks prior to this Show. Sites are allotted by order of receipt of the registration form, with due consideration for requested space. Display space cannot be guaranteed for late arrivals.

Judging: All plants and art entered will be Ribbon and AOS judged by official judges from the American Orchid Society on Saturday April 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The AOS judges need support from several clerks during the Ribbon judging. This is a great chance to learn about the criteria for evaluating award winning orchids. Anyone interested may participate, and no knowledge about orchids is needed.

Cut flowers will be judged with flowering plants of the same class.
Orchids that are put in the show after the official registration time will not be judged.

Liability: The Sacajawea Orchid Society will exercise reasonable precautions in the care of the
Exhibitor’s materials, but neither the Society nor the Gallatin Valley Mall shall be held
liable for loss or damage to plants, flowers, any portion of the exhibits, or sales displays.
